A Day at Featherbed

After breakfast we departed out hotel for Krysna’s famed lagoon and a paddle boat ride to the Featherbed Nature Preserve.  The lagoon is protected from the open water by two giant sandstone cliffs known as ‘the heads’.  The spectacular views were enjoyed along our short ride as well as once on land again.  Once in the preserve we boarded 4x4’s to take us up to the top.  The plan was for us to walk down and bask in the nature along the coast, but I felt it just wasn't worth possibly injuring my healing knee.  Reports from those who walked showed me that I made the right decision.
Returning to the bottom in the vehicle meant we had time to kill.  What better to do than shop and have a cold beer before lunch?

This old preserve has lots of mature, native vegetation.

Our beautiful steamer

This highly perched home still today burns signals to let
sailors know the condition of the waters entering the lagoon.

The entrance to the lagoon is known for very treacherous waters.

The quietness of the lagoon is a welcome respite after what
can be a dangerous entry.

Returning to show we were 'greeted' by Zimbabwean women retying to sell fabric and wooden bowls.  Many of the Zimbabwean people are illegal immigrants as conditions in their own country are extremely oppressive.

Returning to the hotel in early afternoon gave us time to walk the wharf and bask in the sun and enjoy seeing all the local and "not so" local wares.
