Saturday-Last Game Drive and St Lucia Estuary Cruise

Left the hotel at 6am this morning for our last game
drive. Too bad…since the viewing was
rather disappointing. It was a windy day
and the animals are not stupid. They
stayed ion bed and we should have too.
However, this park, the oldest of the games reserves in Africa, was very
beautiful. Lots of hilly country added
to the early morning drive. Our animal
sightings were not fabulous but we did see plenty of rhino. This
park is particularly known for its stands of rhino, both white and black. We didn’t see any black and aren’t sure
whether they have been move into ‘protective custody’ or not. They are seriously endangered. BUT…our day in the sun was mist welcome. There is just something about riding in an
open air vehicle right after sunrise that sets the tone for the day.
After our 3 hour game drive we drove over to St Lucia Estuary
for an afternoon boat ride that included a marvelous lunch. The estuary is home to more than 1000 hippos
and over 2000-crocs, not to mention the numerous birds. The animal viewing was great and the boat
ride was a welcome change from our bus.
